Driving to Costa Del Sol
Afternoon Gents.

I'm looking to drive to Marbella in July. I have booked a ferry from Portsmouth to Santander and have been looking at routes down.

It's a 10 hour drive and i'll have the dog with me. So looking to stop off for a night on route.

Has anyone ever driven this route and can recommend a decent hotel (with parking).

Cheers in advance!

Why not spend some time actually seeing the land you are travelling through? Marbella is an upmarket resort kind of place, fair enough if you like that, but there are absolute treasures on your route and all you are planning on seeing is the road. Plus the dog would like a few stops.

All I’ll say is instead of a hotel for your stop off, check out Airbnb. When you’re driving, you can find outrageous bargains when they are well out of town and off the tourist trail. You’ll have your own farmhouse in the middle of beautiful nature for next to nothing. That what I did last summer with the family, driving he length of France and back again, stopping off at Airbnbs along the way.

Royal...

What are these clubs you speak of? Haha.

Cheers lads!!! Much appreciated.

Bruuuno... It's fairly common to take your dog with you when you move house isn't it? Or do you leave it for the next owners?

Nearest I’ve come to that is driving from Palma overnight to Bilbao for the ferry to Portsmouth.

A doctor from Toledo told me how beautiful it is and the original capital of Spain before Madrid, so a good choice for a stop.

Hermit , the ferry saves a lot of driving and also a load of toll roads so it’s hardly any more expensive than Dover/Calais.as it misses out the whole of France .

Why he needs to have an overnight stop for a ten hour drive tho is anyone’s guess.

That’s a serious chunk. Suppose you save a few quid not hiring a car though.

The dog’s definitely going to chuck up in the night though if that ship starts rolling, then your missis will puke, then you’ll fall. That cabin is going to get messy.

Give me a shout if you come to Madrid bushey.

Parking the van would be a pain here but not impossible. There's a car park in front of mine that you could park up in ok.

Re: Driving to Costa Del Sol
If only there was a couple of continental truck drivers on the forum.

Download an app called Truckfly (all one word) put in a town and it shows parking , hotels , restaurants and fuel stations.

Stick to the N roads if time allows as they are almost as fast , free and about 20 cents a litre on fuel.

There are plenty of roadside hotels on the N roads and quite a few “clubs”

Enjoy the drive , it’s a really good trip. The scenery in the Basque region is fantastic although yesterday morning when I drove through it there was snow and sleet .
